Playa Guiones: Nosara's Perfect Wave
Daily surf reports, tide charts, swell forecasts, and break guides for Playa Guiones — Costa Rica's most consistent beach break.
Break Guide & Conditions
Guiones is a long sandy beach break that works on swells from the NW through SW. Expect usable surf across a wide tide range; check a named forecast source for the day you paddle out. The break is friendly for all levels but gets hollow and powerful in big swell. Expect crowds on weekend mornings.
Surf Schools & Rentals
We list vetted surf schools with certified instructors, board rental shops, and repair services along the beach road. Filter by lesson type — beginner group, private, or advanced coaching — and check availability directly.
Frequently asked questions
- What swell size does Guiones need to be good?
- 3–6 ft is ideal. Under 2 ft it goes flat; over 8 ft it can be heavy and closes out quickly.
- Is there a rip current risk at Guiones?
- Rips form near the river mouth at the north end (Boca Nosara). The beach runs roughly south to north from Punta Guiones toward Playa Pelada and Punta Nosara — swim and surf in the main beach area and treat the river-mouth end with extra caution.
- Are there localism issues?
- Guiones has a mellow vibe — respect the lineup, share waves, and you'll be welcomed warmly.
